Backend Software Engineer Semi Senior

Join a 13-person engineering team leading a year-long platform migration. You move features from a TypeScript monolith to a service-oriented architecture on AWS, sprint by sprint.

Why this role exists

Our client is an edtech company serving Latin America with a strong engineering culture. Their product teams work cross-functionally with agile methods, and they are migrating their platform from an AdonisJS monolith to services that scale across the region. This is an execution role: design, build and solve concrete problems while keeping code quality high.

What you'll own

  • Feature migration from the monolithic platform to a service-oriented architecture on AWS
  • APIs and microservices built on event-driven patterns (SNS, SQS, EventBridge)
  • Solutions delivered sprint by sprint as the team prioritizes them
  • Daily standups and weekly planning with the engineering team
  • Complex problems identified and resolved while maintaining code quality standards
  • Secure, reusable APIs built on Domain Driven Design principles

What we're looking for

  • 2+ years of backend development with TypeScript and Go
  • Solid experience with AWS, microservices architectures and event-driven systems (SNS, SQS, EventBridge)
  • Secure REST API design applying DDD principles, ideally with TypeScript frameworks like AdonisJS
  • Relational databases, unit testing and test-driven development
  • Agile environments (Scrum, Sprints)
  • English B2, written and spoken

Bonus

  • Portuguese (part of the team works in Portuguese)
  • Migrating or modernizing production platforms
  • Non-relational databases
  • Other backend frameworks or languages
  • Formal education in systems engineering or a related field

What success looks like

First 90 days

You are integrated into the team and delivering feature migrations with tested code and clean APIs. You understand the monolith and the target service architecture, and you take an active part in sprints and technical decisions.

Ongoing

You are a reliable backend contributor who unblocks the team and keeps code quality high. The migration advances on schedule with minimal rework, and you mentor newer team members on the platform architecture.
