Front-end Software Engineer, Semi-Senior

Join a 13-person engineering team leading a year-long platform migration. You build and migrate the frontend, sprint by sprint, and make sure every delivery ships with quality.

Remote · Latin America · $2,800-$3,800 USD/month · Full-time · Independent Contractor · Monday to Friday · 9 AM-6 PM UTC-3

Why this role exists

Our client is an edtech company with a strong presence across Latin America and a robust engineering culture. Their product teams work cross-functionally using agile methodologies to build scalable digital solutions for education. This is an execution role: you take concrete problems, solve them, and ensure quality in every delivery.

What you'll own

  • Frontend development and migration of digital products into the company's stack
  • Solutions the team needs, sprint by sprint, meeting delivery commitments
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team alongside product managers and engineers
  • Contributions to frontend technology decisions and architecture discussions
  • Complex problems, resolved while maintaining code quality and test coverage
  • Code reviews that help raise engineering standards across the team

Why this is interesting

  • A year-long platform migration with real impact on the product
  • A voice in frontend technology and architecture decisions
  • A robust engineering culture with cross-functional, agile teams

What we're looking for

  • At least 3 years of professional frontend development experience
  • Solid in React and Next.js, comfortable with modern tooling like Webpack and Babel
  • Clean HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and TypeScript well enough to use it daily
  • Hands-on with CSS frameworks like Tailwind and unit testing libraries like Jest and React Testing Library
  • You build responsive, accessible web applications and work comfortably in Scrum sprints
  • English C1, written and spoken. You read technical documentation in English and communicate clearly with distributed teams

Bonus

  • Portuguese (part of the team works in Portuguese)
  • Experience modernizing or migrating a production web application
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and testing tools

What success looks like

First 90 days

You are integrated with the team and delivering clean, reviewed frontend code at sprint velocity. You have shipped at least two migration components that pass quality gates and are live in production, and you understand the tech stack, deployment process and team working agreements.

Ongoing

You consistently deliver high-quality frontend work on schedule with minimal rework or bugs. You contribute to architecture decisions, help raise code quality standards, and mentor junior engineers and unblock teammates.
