Staff Accountant (Remote)

Location: Remote

Schedule: Monday to Friday, Full time.

Type:  Independent Contractor

About the Company

Our client is a profitable US home services company, a licensed plumbing and HVAC contractor serving residential and commercial customers. The finance operation runs on ServiceTitan, and as the business grows the controller needs a strong accountant to take on the full accounting workload, not just receivables.

About the Role

You are the controller's right hand and the accountant who keeps the books clean. You own accounts receivable end to end, help close the books each month, post journal entries, reconcile accounts, support payroll, and help with financial reporting. It is a broad seat for someone with real accounting experience who takes ownership of financial accuracy and wants to grow toward a controller role.

Who You Are

• You have 3 or more years in accounting, hands-on across accounts receivable and general accounting.

• You are comfortable helping close the month, posting journal entries, and reconciling accounts with limited oversight.

• You are proficient with accounting software and a CRM, and you pick up new systems fast.

• You are comfortable calling US customers about payments and handle billing conversations with a steady, professional tone.

• You are strong with Excel.

• Your English is C2, spoken and written, because this role is on the phone with US customers every day.

• You are detail-oriented and dependable, catching errors and following through on commitments.

Key Responsibilities

• Own accounts receivable end to end: review invoices for accuracy, catch memberships and maintenance agreements that are not yet billing, and follow up with customers on overdue balances.

• Help close the books each month, including journal entries and account reconciliations.

• Reconcile bank, credit card, and general ledger accounts.

• Support payroll processing.

• Support financial reporting and keep records audit-ready.

• Partner with the controller on process improvements as the business scales.

Bonus Points

• Experience with ServiceTitan.

• Experience with QuickBooks.

• Payroll experience.

• A background in trades or home services such as plumbing, HVAC, or construction.

• An accounting degree or CPA-track studies.

What Success Looks Like

First 90 Days

• You are proficient in ServiceTitan and understand the end-to-end billing and accounting workflow for the company.

• You have taken accounts receivable off the controller's plate, with a follow-up system for overdue accounts in place.

• You are contributing to the month-end close and account reconciliations.

Ongoing

• The books are accurate and up to date, and the month closes on time.

• Accounts receivable aging stays current, with overdue balances followed up within 5 business days.

• You are the controller's trusted partner across accounting and payroll, flagging issues early and resolving them independently.
